Season of Advent…Week 4

Christmas is drawing closer! Are you done shopping/wrapping? (I’m not!) Are you done baking? (I never started!) Are you run ragged from all the to-do’s and events of the season? (After this past week…I am!)

Oh yeah. This past week was the busiest one I’ve had in a looonnng time. We had a full week of school = full week of teaching new curriculum + report card testing + Christmas crafts & program to prep for. School was non-stop go, go, go. Then I came home each night to a full list of to-do’s, which included a pretty serious housecleaning overhaul (wiping down baseboards, scrubbing bathtubs, etc.), prepping for Chris’ suprise party, and a night of cookie making. (Notice I said “making,” not “baking!”) I had to make a Wal-Mart trip for our houseguests this weekend, pay bills, and get together Chris’ and my clothes for his graduation ceremony. (Which included ironing. Boo.)

And that was all on top of the normal laundry, trash day, dishes, cooking, dog-walking/playing to-do’s that are a normal each week.

Goodness gracious.

Needless to say, our nightly time of Advent scripture readings & prayer was not super consistent…I wish we had stuck with it more closely. I have really drawn close to the Lord through the time we have spent remembering & honoring Him, and I know that we missed out on blessings the nights I was “too busy” to stop and dig into my Bible.

I feel certain God still has something for me this week, and I certainly have plenty of thanks and praise to pour out on Him…and He has something for you too! Here’s the prayer & scripture to get you started for this last week of Advent…

Prayer for the 4th week of Advent

Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Scripture for the 4th Week

Sunday – John 3:16-21

Monday – Luke 1:1-25

Tuesday – Luke 1:26-38

Wednesday – Luke 1:39-56

Thursday – Luke 1:57-66

Friday – Luke 1:67-80

Saturday – Matthew 1:18-25

Hope your countdown to Christmas is a meaningful one! 🙂

KEEP CALM & HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Season of Advent…Week 3

Why hello there friends! I have not, indeed, fallen off the face of the planet. <That’s a big relief right?!> It’s more like I’ve been busy spending time with the fam & buzzing around like a little Christmas elf. Despite the hard changes that accompany this particular Christmas <first without my Pappy & first away from my fam> I am really enjoying the spirit of the season. It hasn’t been busy in a stressful way, and Advent is helping Chris & I keep our eyes on what it’s really all about.

Speaking of Advent, and what it’s all about, I better give you the Advent prayer & scripture for today before the evening is over!

Prayer for the third week of Advent

Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Scriptures for the third week

Sunday – Isaiah 9:6-7

Monday – Isaiah 7:10-14

Tuesday – Isaiah 11:1-6

Wednesday – Isaiah 40: 10 – 11

Thursday – Isaiah 52:7

Friday – Jeremiah 33:14-16

Saturday – Malachi 3:1-2

If you are lighting candles on an Advent wreath, this week is the rose colored candle. 🙂

Today we attended my home church with the parentals, and the choir was presenting their Christmas musical called “One Quiet Night.” As you can probably guess, it was all about keeping your priorities in order this Christmas season. During a portion of the performance everyone held lit candles & we joined in singing with the choir. One particular song touched my heart…

O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There’s light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting He passed,

and we follow Him there;

O’er us sin no more hath dominion—

For more than conqu’rors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;

Believe Him, and all will be well:

Then go to a world that is dying,

His perfect salvation to tell!

KEEP CALM & TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS!
