No no no…this cannot be! Is the weekend already almost over?! Eeek!
Tomorrow I officially have to be back at school for meetings. (I know, I know…I’ve already been going up there for a week. But there’s a difference between going/coming when you want and having to report for meetings.) On the drive back to MW I was feeling kind of bummed about going back. So much to do…I’ll be sitting in meetings…oh dear.
And then it hit me…Shame on me!
There are still many, many teachers out there who would love to be going back to work tomorrow. Teachers who have spent their summers filling out applications and filing for unemployment and worrying about their future. I am blessed to have this job, and I need to act & treat it as such. I need to give it my all, because I don’t know what the future holds for myself, my district, or education in TX.
Now is not the time to forget about those teachers, not the time to forget that we could face the same troubles in the fall. It is the time to pray, pray, pray, and to look for opportunities to exercise your rights to vote & be heard by your government representatives!
And now to what I had really planned on sharing with you guys today…my newest addiction…Pinterest!
I fought this one as long as I could. I mean, it’s like I’ve been running into it ALL over blogland ALL summer. Now I wish I hadn’t put it off…if I had just signed up sooner then some of the new might have worn of. As it stands now I waste a really ridiculous amount of time pinning stuff. 😛
<I realize that not all of you will be familiar with Pinterest, and even after I explain it you might still be scratching your head. So if you feel even the slight bit intrigued then go to the website (www.pinterest.com) and request an invite. Once you get in & get going it’s pretty easy to figure out.>
In the words of Pinterest: Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Collect the things you love.
When I was a girl, I remember getting the big JCPenney catalog & cutting out all the things I thought I would like to have in my “grown-up” house. (It’s like I was practicing /prepping my future wedding registry…little girls love to play house!) After I cut the pics out, I would glue them on pages according to what room they would go in. Did you ever do that?
Or maybe you watch a lot of home design shows and hear them talking about “inspiration boards,” which is where they place pictures & colors & fabrics together on a board that will inspire the overall look and feel of a room. Know what I’m talking about?
Pinterest is like each of those things…only virtual. It has pictures of everything you can imagine and categories to help you navigate your way through. When you see something that catches your attention, you simply “repin” it to one of your own boards. You also get to decide what type of boards you’ll have…some examples of mine are: School, Food to Try, Party Ideas, Just for Fun, For the Home, & Gift Ideas. So the “food to try” board is full of sweet treats that I think I’d like to make sometime, the “gift ideas” is filled with cute little gifts I can make for friends, and so on.
Once you’ve mastered that you can also follow your friends boards…there’s a Facebook connect to help you find your friends that are pinning.
Obviously my absolute favorite board to add things to right now is the one dedicated to “School.” I have gotten so many awesome ideas for my own classroom…management tools, curriculum supplements, student motivators. I’ve already added several of the ideas that I “pinned” to my to-do list, and I can’t wait to find more pieces of inspiration as the year goes on.
Soooooo…if you are planning a wedding, or a baby shower, or a birthday party, or decorating a room, or working with children, or wanting to be crafty, or taking pictures, or looking to change your style, or wanting to try a few new recipes, or WHATEVER, I’d be willing to bet you could find inspiration on Pinterest. It’s at least worth a try right?!
And I’d love for you to follow me on Pinterest! <img src=”http://d3io1k5o0zdpqr.cloudfront.net/images/follow-on-pinterest-button.png” width=”156″ height=”26″ alt=”Follow Me on Pinterest” />
KEEP CALM & PINTEREST ON!
